LONG BEACH - Hovorí sa, že ten, kto nezažil vojnu na vlastnej koži, nikdy nepochopí, aké sú jej skutočné dôsledky. Fotograf Michael Stokes sa rozhodol šokovať svet, o zároveň dokázal niečo veľmi silné. Modelmi jeho fotografií sú americkí vojnoví veteráni, ktorých možno bez zaváhania označiť za sexi mužov aj ženy. Posolstvo je však omnoho silnejšie.
Muži a ženy s protézami aj bez nich, v oblečení aj bez neho – to všetko nájdete v Stokesovej najnovšej fotosérii. Pohľad na krásne vypracované telá však „kazia“ nedostatky, pri všetkých fotkách má človek zmiešané pocity. U každého prevládne iný, no rozhodne nútia ľudí zamyslieť sa. Sú títo ľudia príťažliví alebo ich mám ľutovať a byť smutný?

„Niektorí ľudia mi hovoria, toto im skutočne pomôže získať sebavedomie alebo pomáhaš im cítiť sa opäť ako ľudia. Títo chlapi a tieto ženy však za mnou prišli vyliečení a pripravení na svet. Ja im sebavedomie nevraciam. Oni ho už majú,“ povedal Stokes pre stanicu MTV. Aj ťažko ranení veteráni tak dávajú celému svetu najavo, že sú stále rovnakí, možno ešte silnejší, než boli pred odchodom do Afganistanu.
